Sustainability

At Norwood Park, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and implementing schemes to reduce our carbon footprint. We strive to be a sustainable venue at the forefront of progress.

An Environmentally Conscious Estate

How We Stay Sustainable

We pledged to reduce our direct impact on the environment by dynamically managing our waste and consumption of natural resources. It is our duty to reduce our environmental impact on society so that we have an Estate that can be developed for future generations.

Sustainability is at the heart of our business practice. We aim to implement and monitor environmental actions within our organisation and adapt our policies to make improvements.

Renewable Energy

Recycling

Be the change you want to see in the world: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Reducing Food Miles

Food is always at the centre of our events, our chefs work to select seasonal ingredients and locally source ingredients as much as possible through partnering with local suppliers & farmers. This helps to ensure a reduction in food miles for the produce in our menus and therefore the environmental impact of our events.

Local Farming

To help with the biodiversity of the Estate, we home a variety of livestock including Highland Cows, Gloucestershire Old Spots Pigs and sheep, which freely roam the fields. Traditional farming techniques like those used on the estate help to support soil fertilisation, benefit birds and insects as well as prevent the spread of non-native invasive plants.

Organic Orchards

Our apple orchards have a long history on the estate, from their links to the original bramley apple tree first grown in Southwell to our more recent history as a fruit farm. Our orchards are now undergoing less intensive farming and have begun the process of obtaining their organic accreditation.

EV Charging

We’ve recently installed electric vehicle charging points at a selection of our self-catering properties on the estate. We hope to be able to support more sustainable travel for guests choosing to holiday with us as we recognise that due to our rural location other forms of sustainable travel can sometimes be more challenging.

Electricity

Our estate solar panels generate power that supports the general running of our business, reducing our national grid usage. Any remaining power is released to the grid to help power the local community.

Paper Usage

We collaborate with Printreleaf to offset the impact of our office printing by reforesting trees based on the number of pages we print. That means for every function sheet we prepare or table plan we produce for your event, you’ll be helping us reduce our impact on the environment.

Supporting Food Banks

We have a strong relationship with the local Lions Club, each year, 4 tonnes of Bramley Apples and Pears are picked by the Lions from the estate orchards and donated to local food banks via FareShare the environmental charity.

Balancing Pond

We have a balancing pond on the Estate, which collects surface water run-off acting as a flood defence for the town of Southwell and helping to mitigate the impacts of excess rainfall during heavy storms.
